Second home ((Open!))
Schreber has been puttering for about a week, pinpointing back and forth from home and setting up his lab again. It's been pretty much empty since his heart attack and that was a while ago. He's visited once or twice to show Sarah around but now he's moving things in and setting up his room again. There's another beat up couch (Not the same one, that's at the beach house), and his lockbox with the brainjuice samples, and the computer is up and running. There's also a box with a lamp that's supposed to simulate real sunlight and a little wire rack like you're supposed to put in a patio for flowerpots. Schreber is still puttering because he's not really sure where to get started but the door is open (that makes him a little jumpy) and there's a sign taped to the door with his name on it again. The old one got swept away in the flood.
Orwell is on the arm of the new couch, pulling at threads and watching the door anxiously for visitors but the lab seems very quiet these days.

There's a knock on the doorframe, since the door is open. It's Sarah, in her nurse's uniform. "Hi," she grins. "It's my lunch break. I thought you might like to eat with me." And look! She brought a picnic basket.

Did the picnic basket just mew?
raven_orwell on April 2nd, 2007 05:11 pm (UTC)
Orwell makes happy noises! He's the official door guard but Sarah is always welcome and she brought him a friend! And food!
dr_schreber: fascinateddr_schreber on April 2nd, 2007 05:12 pm (UTC)
Schreber looks up and smiles. "Always. You don't need an excuse to visit." He blinks a little and then smiles again when he hears the basket. "I hope you didn't pack tuna..." He looks around and then rolls the flowerpot rack thingy over to the couch for a table.
Sarah Branigan: black and whitesarah_branigan on April 2nd, 2007 05:20 pm (UTC)
"Hi Orwell," Sarah smiles, setting down the picnic basket so she can tickle the raven's feathers. The lid of the picnic basket pops up, revealing Clio. She looks around with wide eyes before spotting Orwell and hopping over to see him. Birdy friend!

"No, no tuna," she grins. "I put a little divider in there so she wouldn't make a mess of things..." She unpacks some tupperware containers. Looks like pasta salad, fresh fruit, and lemon tarts are on the menu.

"Are you getting settled in okay?" She takes a look around and giggles at the beat-up couch. "Is there a couch dispenser somewhere in the labs?"
raven_orwell on April 2nd, 2007 05:44 pm (UTC)
Look there is a new couch to make nests in! Clio should check out the insides of it and maybe soften it up a little with her claws.
Orwell creaks and grooms her a little and walks around on the couch clicking. Look at the couch! Look at the lab! This is my room!

Schreber watches the animals. "Oh good. I was worried she crept in when you weren't... looking." He smiles. "It's acceptable to take things from unused rooms. This place gener...ates rooms a little randomly and there's a lot of them that on one has need for." He pats the couch and a little cloud of dust flies up. It is a very unused couch.
Sarah Branigansarah_branigan on April 2nd, 2007 06:01 pm (UTC)
Clio is impressed! This is a nice couch for playing. She leaps from one cushion to another and brings up another cloud of dust, making her sneeze. She spends a few moments wiping her face with her paw.

"That's convenient..." she eyes the couch. "You might want to get it cleaned, though. I don't think anyone's used it for a long time." She pats the table. "This is neat. You're going to put the plants on this?"
dr_schreber: Nervous smile Tod artdr_schreber on April 2nd, 2007 06:59 pm (UTC)
It is the kind of couch the animals instinctive know they are allowed to beat up!

"Oh... ah... It does need dusting off I guess." He looks sheepish. "I wanted one nobody would miss. Yes, and I finally bought a lamp."
Sarah Branigansarah_branigan on April 2nd, 2007 07:16 pm (UTC)
It helps that Sarah is not currently trying to push them off the couch and saying, "Down. Dowwwwn." She seems amused by their antics -- Clio's currently trying to headbutt Orwell.

"I don't think anyone will miss that one," she agrees, grinning. "That's fantastic... you'll have quite the little garden in here." She looks around some more and her gaze lands on the metal lockbox. The one she hasn't seen since that night. "That's... that has the vials in it, doesn't it?"
dr_schreber: contemplative syringedr_schreber on April 3rd, 2007 01:34 pm (UTC)
Because only Sarah tells them that. Schreber just tells them to behave and not scratch anything up, but lets them go anywhere they want.
"I'd like to. I wonder if the overhead lights could be re...placed...?" He cranes his neck to look up thoughtfully at the ugly overhead flourescent light strips set in the ceiling. Her question brings him back. "It... does, yes. Not all of them. I had some stored here that I left because I was...n't worried about losing them, but it looks like Mr. Osborn pro...tected things like that from the flood."
Sarah Branigan: soft happysarah_branigan on April 3rd, 2007 02:07 pm (UTC)
She walks over to the lockbox. "How many samples do you have?" She sounds curious. "Did you ever figure out how They were able to suspend memories in liquid? It just seems to go against everything I've learned about the brain."
dr_schreber: *science!*dr_schreber on April 3rd, 2007 02:34 pm (UTC)
Schreber shuts the door and locks it quietly. It's not meant to be menacing but he doesn't like the idea of just anybody being able to walk in if he gets the samples out. "I don't know. The formula is in here..." He taps his own head. "But even knowing how to put the components together it de...fies explanation. I know more than anyone else about it and it's still not enough." He sighs and comes over and unlocks the storage box. It's one of those very heavy fire and flood proof kinds. "How many depends how you count them. A lot of them are just... fragments."
Sarah Branigan: purple rosesarah_branigan on April 3rd, 2007 02:41 pm (UTC)
Sarah doesn't interpret it as menacing at all. She understands the need for privacy. She peers at the vials once he opens the box -- lots of little memories, just waiting to be placed into someone's head. "Fragments? Just a single memory, then, or--" she grasps for the words to describe what she wants to say. "I remember, in the movie, you were adding a little bit from different vials..."
dr_schreber: *science!*dr_schreber on April 3rd, 2007 02:48 pm (UTC)
Also Sarah has a pinpoint. Or maybe she'd like to be trapped somewhere with Schreber. He pulls out the little metal rack that the vials hang in. They have little labels in his cramped handwriting that she might be able to read now just from seeing it around. "Less then a lifetime, anyway. I... a long time ago I collected whatever wasn't de...stroyed. A lot of what I found wasn't viable." He puts the rack on the table.
Orwell looks up from playing with Clio and cocks his head a little. He hasn't heard that familiar glass and metal clink for a while.
Sarah Branigan: purple rosesarah_branigan on April 3rd, 2007 02:59 pm (UTC)
Sarah is not thinking about what she'd like to do in a locked room with Daniel (maybe she'll daydream about that later). Right now, her attention is on the vials. She catches a word or two of writing on the labels -- his writing is never easy to read except up-close. "Some of this is from before? But no way of knowing who they came from..."
